Meet Dr. Shirley Mullen

Dr. Shirley Mullen is President Emeritus of Houghton College, where she worked to prepare faith-driven young people for a life of integrated service, justice-seeking, and continued learning. She created the Center for Faith, Justice, and Global Engagement at Houghton College in 2001. and in 2013 hosted a Faith & Justice Symposium on food security. Before becoming president, Mullen was provost at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, where she was awarded faculty/staff membership in Omicron Delta Kappa. She is a trustee of Fuller Seminary, a board member of the Allegany County United Way, and a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

Mullen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Houghton University in 1976, followed by a Master of Arts from the University of Toronto. Mullen then earned two doctorates, one in history from the University of Minnesota and the other in philosophy from the University of Wales.
